Dr. Nora focuses on a comprehensive, holistic approach to getting to know your child and examining any restrictive movement. Tongues, lips, and cheeks are only considered to be tied if their movement is restricted, impairing function.
Correct examination of infants requires the infant to be placed on the examiner’s lap with the infant’s head facing the same direction as the person evaluating the infant. Dr. Nora assesses muscle tension, mobility, and other signs of restricted frenulum. Diagnosis of tongue, lip, and/or cheek ties are based upon function, so what your infant’s mouth may look can sometimes be less indicative of actual function and mobility. Each case needs to be assessed by an educated and trained practitioner on an individual basis.
